Delivery Time
What is the delivery time? and delivery options. You dont want to be in a position of running out of labels and having to wait several days for your order to arrive. Also ask what the delivery options are. The pricing for delivery can really inflate the price. A great price on shipping labels wont do you much good, if the shipping charges are inflated.

Free Shipping for Larger Quantities
Depending on the quantity you order, the vendor may be willing to offer Free Shipping. Dont expect them to alway offer it, larger companies will go by their shipping policy, smaller vendors want your business and may be willing to offer Free Shipping if your order is large enough to make it worth it to them.

Price Matching
Mabe 20 years ago, price matching was impressive. Not anymore. Why would you do business with a vendor that was willing to charge you more then a competitor, then only match a competitors price. When you are shopping around and getting price quotes on blank mailing and shipping labels dont accept a price match, make them beat the price!

Blank Mailing Labels
Dont forget about mailing labels. Most businesses mail much more mail pieces then they do packages. Blank mailing labels are available in sheets, and still available for dot matrix printers. Since blank label stock is USUALLY priced based on the label stock type (inkjet, laser, glossy, matte, clear etc) the price for 500 sheets of Blank Shipping Labels should be the same as 500 sheets of Blank Mailing Labels.

Ask for Samples
We have covered alot of pricing tips and strategies here and they are all an important part of seeking out and finding the best deal on blank mailing and shipping labels, but there is one critical thing you must do before you order. Ask for Samples. Most generic non-name brand blank labels are just as good as the higher priced name brands. It is crucial that you have samples sent to you so you can feed them thru your printer. You need to actually test the product with your equipment to make sure the labels perform they way you expect.

Buying Blank Mailing and Shipping Labels
I think this should cover all the bases. Print this out and file it in with other business documents or articles. If you have any additional tips or suggestions, please post comments so everyone can benefit.

Save Money on Shipping Labels

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

If your company ships packages on a regular basis, you can save money by purchasing blank shipping and mailing labels in bulk.

Although you can save money, there are some things to consider and some tips to make sure you do it right.

How much to buy
This is a simple calculation. The number of packages shipped per week (PPW) times 52 (PPW x 52)

Laser or inkjet
Inkjet label stock is more expensive than laser label stock.
If you have an inkjet printed do you HAVE to get label stock that was specifically designed for inkjet printers? Not necessarily. For shipping labels, laser stock works fine on inkjet printers.

Shop around
Take time and do research. Prices can and do vary greatly. Find out price break points. Calculate the Cost per sheet INCLUDING SHIPPING. Some vendors attract you with low prices but they inflate the shipping cost. Some vendors offer free shipping. Make sure you know exactly what your cost per sheet will be.

Shop on Ebay
Ebay sellers are not bound by “company policy pricing”. You can occasionally find deals the no one can beat.

Negotiate
If you may be purchasing large bulk quantities, 1,000 sheets or more) definately try to negotiate. Let them know you are looking for a long term vendor relationship. If they know it’s not just a one time purchase, you may be able to negotiate a better price.

Guarantee / Return Policy
What is their Guarantee and Return Policy. This is a deal breaker. Blank label stock is heavy. If the labels arrive damaged, who is responsible? Some companies will replace them at no charge and the damaged ones picked up at their cost. Some suppliers will make YOU pay for shipping the damaged labels back to them. This is the number 1 most important policy to know before you buy.
Wait, we aren’t finished yet. There is still more you need to know. Part 2 will finish things up so you are armed with everything you need to know to get the best price on shipping labels.
